Full Professor at the Department of Anthropology at UFSC (1982), works on the Interdisciplinary Doctorate in Human Sciences. He coordinates the Institute of Brazilian Football Studies, is part of the Institute of Gender Studies (IEG) and coordinates the Center for Audiovisual Anthropology and Image Studies (Navi) and the Urban and Maritime Anthropology Group. He was president of the Brazilian Anthropological Association (2013-2015), of the World Council of Anthropological Associations (WCAA, 2018-2021) and co-coordinated the World Anthropological Union (WAU, 2019-2021). He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Wenner Gren Foundation, the Anthropen dictionary, and the Open Anthropology Research Repository of the American Anthropological Association. He completed postdoctoral studies at the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie Sociale (Collège de France/CNRS), at the École des Hautes Études en Science Sociale (EHESS), at the Université de Toulouse and a Senior Internship Abroad/CAPES at the City University of NY. He received the Roquete Pinto Medal (2016) and the Pierre Verger Prize (2002) from the Brazilian Anthropology Association.
